  After all of the publicity, my wife and I decided to visit the Whiskey House on 1/7. Our experience was one of the worst we've had in Des Moines thus far. I am a bourbon lover, and their choices in that regard are really impressive...but the rest falls really flat.
  
  For instance, on a Saturday night at 6:15 they were already out of 25% of their entrees, and another few appetizers. One such shortage was THE BURGER. Why someone had not simply run to the local store to get hamburger meat...I have no idea. The menu itself is already very limited and unimpressive, which is an example of the personality crisis going on here (should we be Texas Road House, a roadhouse bar, or an upscale whiskey joint and restaurant?). My "sliders" were literally brisket placed on a hot dog bun cut three ways.
  
  Service was also awful. We were there for a total of 90 minutes, and were lucky to have seen our waitress 4 times. One visit was to bring us the wrong food, disappear for 20 minutes and never apologize or recognize that it took an hour to get mac and cheese and three sliders. Once the food did arrive it was not good...cold and nothing you couldn't get anywhere else. I'm sure there are kinks to work out, but I don't anticipate going back...there are too many other great places that deserve your business.

  Went there for dinner with some friends. It was really busy (which is a good sign), but seat yourself. That led to a few tense moments with the people waiting for tables and others just grabbing one. They should probably have someone seating patrons. After getting a table, we ordered and waited over an hour for our food as it was starting to die down. One of my mixed drink orders took over half an hour to show up. The waiter was fantastic, keeping our other drinks full and letting us know he was bugging the cooks for the food. It wasn't his fault, but the cooks and bartenders were ridiculously slow. Maybe they are still working out the kinks, but I probably won't be back despite the great tasting food and drinks.

  Mule's and curds were good. Nice atmosphere and live​ music. I can't wait for it to warm up at sit on the patio.
